All in the name of Christmas celebration, hotels, shopping complexes, restaurant and even TV commercials had ‘their shows’ moving. A quick look at those landmarks in cities and big towns showed their premises and personnels were put at their best to attract attention.
Lively Christmas trees and Santa Claus were main features that could not be missed. And politicians had already ‘Hari Krismas 1-Malaysia’!
From what I’ve learned from RIM (Religion in Malaysia) subject, the date chosen to be Christmas Day (25th December) had no significant relating to Jesus Christ.
But I admit that during my childhood days, I was fascinated by icons such as Santa Claus and the Christmas tree. It was nice to look at pictures of the Christmas tree with its decorated lights and presents including those in stockings hanging on it !
I too was touched by Santa Claus goodness, bringing goodies to children. And frankly, I’m dreaming that he will come at night.
Ok, sangat mengarut.
Gladly I realized that all these icons were new inventions, perhaps in one aspect they were created by capitalist master to market their products.
Daripada Abu Sa’eed al-Khudri radhiyallahu ‘anhu bahawa Nabi sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam telah bersabda:
Sesungguhnya kamu akan menurut langkah orang terdahulu dari kamu sejengkal demi sejengkal, sehasta demi sehasta. Sehinggalah bila mereka masuk lubang biawak sekali pun kamu turut menurutnya.
Para sahabat bertanya: Adakah yang dituruti itu Yahudi dan Nasrani? Rasulullah lantas menjawab, siapa lagi kalau tidak mereka itu.
[Hadith riwayat al-Bukhari dan Muslim]
If you're really want to wish them, just say “have a good holiday” or “wish you a good christmas holiday”, not “Happy Christmas” or "Merry Christmas”
